Commercial Solar & Battery Installation – Leisure Centre, Fareham
Location: Fareham, Hampshire
Installer: TEMS Solar
System Size: 197 kWp
Battery Storage: 80 kWh
System Type: Solar PV with Commercial Battery Storage
Project Overview
TEMS Solar completed a large-scale commercial solar PV and battery storage installation at a leisure centre in Fareham, designed to support high daytime energy demand and reduce reliance on grid electricity. Leisure centres are inherently energy-intensive facilities, with constant loads from lighting, HVAC, pool equipment, and fitness facilities, making them ideal candidates for on-site renewable generation.
The project aimed to significantly reduce operating costs while improving energy resilience and supporting sustainability objectives.
System Design & Technology
The solar PV system comprises 394 x 500W DMEGC solar panels, delivering a total installed capacity of 197 kWp. Each panel is equipped with SolarEdge power optimisers, enabling module-level performance optimisation, improved output in shaded or variable conditions, and enhanced system monitoring.
Power conversion is managed by a combination of SolarEdge Synergy inverters, including:
This configuration provides high efficiency, scalability, and built-in redundancy, ensuring reliable performance for a critical public facility.
To further enhance system safety, a SolarEdge Firefighter Gateway was installed, providing rapid shutdown functionality in the event of an emergency and ensuring compliance with commercial safety standards. This feature offers reassurance to site operators and emergency services alike.
An 80kWh Sigenergy (Sigen) battery system was integrated to maximise self-consumption by storing excess solar generation for use during peak demand periods, reducing grid imports and improving overall system economics.
Installation & Delivery
The installation was delivered with careful coordination to minimise disruption to the leisure centre’s daily operations. TEMS Solar managed the project from detailed system design through to commissioning, ensuring full compliance with grid, safety, and operational requirements.
Performance & Benefits
The combined solar and battery solution delivers substantial operational benefits, including:
-
Reduced electricity costs through high-capacity on-site generation
-
Enhanced energy efficiency via module-level optimisation
-
Improved self-consumption and load balancing with battery storage
-
Advanced safety features through rapid shutdown capability
-
Lower carbon emissions and strengthened sustainability credentials
The system is well aligned with the leisure centre’s daytime energy profile, with solar generation and battery storage working together to support continuous operation.
Outcome
This Fareham leisure centre installation showcases TEMS Solar’s expertise in delivering advanced, safety-focused commercial solar solutions. By integrating large-scale PV, intelligent optimisation, robust inverter architecture, and battery storage, the project provides long-term financial savings, operational resilience, and measurable environmental impact.
